On June 22, 2011, a Silver Alert was issued for 77-year-old Richard Eugene Skaggs. Skaggs went missing in Mount Airy, Maryland and was found safe 47 miles away in Washington, D.C

A missing person alert was canceled after a 77-year-old man was located by police at a gas station around 6 p.m. in northwest Washington, D.C.
Richard Eugene Skaggs was taken to Georgetown University Hospital suffering from heat exhaustion, but otherwise appeared to be in good health, according to a Maryland State Police press release.Skaggs had been missing from his home near Mount Airy since Tuesday.
