Silver Alert Success Story: 83-year old Florida man found in North Carolina
On November 7, 2011, a Silver Alert was issued for 83-year-old Jack Hill. Hill went missing in Gainesville, Florida, and was later found safe in Fayetteville, North Carolina, after a trip of more than 1,000 miles from Gainesville to Miami to Fayetteville.
From the news story in the Gainesville Sun:
Hill, who is a part-time Gainesville resident, was last seen Monday in three places around town, according to the Gainesville Police Department. He was at the McDonald’s at 201 NW 13th St. during the afternoon, then at the Bo Didley Plaza in downtown Gainesville around 6 p.m. and was last seen at the Arby’s on SW 13th Street around 8:30 p.m.
Sometime after Hill was spotted at Arby’s, he began a journey that covered more than 1,000 miles.
Police issued a Silver Alert for Hill shortly after his family reported him missing Monday. The alert is posted statewide when someone with a cognitive impairment disappears.
Police spokeswoman Corp. Angelina Valuri said Hill was spotted on a bus in North Carolina Tuesday morning. What police don’t know is how he got to Miami to get onto the bus bound for Fayetteville.
