Florida Silver Alert Marks Its Fourth Birthday
The Florida Silver Alert program was praised by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the program.
Since the Florida program began in October 2008, 554 Silver Alerts have been issued, and 539 people have been located. In 68 of those cases, the person was located as a direct result of the Silver Alert.
From the article in the Orlando Sentinel:
The program may best be recognized by the alerts that are placed on electronic billboards on Florida roadways, with descriptions of the missing person’s vehicle.
“Seniors who become lost or disoriented face risks of serious injury,” Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Gerald Bailey said in a prepared statement Tuesday. “The Silver Alert system has exceeded our expectations for both usage and successful recoveries.”
