Silver Alert Success Story: 80-year old Missouri Woman Found in Tennessee

On February 19, 2016, a Silver Alert  was issued for 80-year-old Ida Brunkhorst. Brunkhorst went missing in St. Peters, Missouri and was found safe over 230 miles away in Dyersburg, Tennessee.

An elderly St. Peters woman with Alzheimer’s and dementia who went missing in her car on Friday was found safe Saturday morning in a Tennessee town more than 230 miles away, the Missouri Highway Patrol confirmed.

Ida M. Brunkhorst, 80, went shopping Friday in her 2010 Ford Escape. At about noon on Friday, she was stopped by Ballwin police, and told them she had gotten lost while attempting to go home from shopping.

She subsequently was reported missing.
By Friday night, police determined that her debit card had been used at a Marathon Petro in Memphis, Tenn. — some 300 miles south of her home — at 7:30 p.m.
Brunkhorst was found alive and well Saturday morning in Dyersburg, Tenn., about 77 miles northeast of Memphis.

“Her car had broken down and the local police department found her and took her to the hospital as a precaution,” said Melissa Doss, spokeswoman for the the St. Peters Police Department.
