New Indiana Law Expands Silver Alert

by silveralertbill

Governor Eric Holcomb on Monday at the Statehouse ceremonially signed State Rep. Sharon Negele’s (R-Attica) legislation into law expanding Silver Alerts to include missing children with disabilities.

Silver Alerts are issued by law enforcement and voluntarily broadcast by TV and radio stations when an adult with disabilities has wandered from their caregiver and is unlikely to return home without assistance. This new law authored by Negele expands the alert to include missing children with mental or physical disabilities.

“Our current emergency alert system does not cover missing children with disabilities,” Negele said. “To close the existing gap and ensure the public is notified in a timely manner, children with disabilities will be included in the Silver Alert system. Our goal is to bring more missing children home quickly and safely.”
