Oklahoma Man Honored as Silver Alert Advocate

Ninety-year-old James Crowder of Oklahoma City was recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from Ed Lake, director of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

Crowder was born Dec. 23, 1927. Crowder joined the National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) in October of 1988 and the AARP. Crowder is currently an office supervisor for the Oklahoma Alliance on Aging and contributes articles regularly for the OAOA newsletter.

Crowder told The Oklahoman about his advocacy of Silver Alert legislation in the Sooner State.

“I often discover in talking with them that there are certain things in their lives that could be made better by a change in our legislation,” he said. “The ‘Silver Alert’ legislation was one of these. One of our members in the Oklahoma Silver Haired Legislature realized the plight of seniors who wander far from home and we needed legislation to garner attention so they could be led to safety and their lives could be saved,” he stressed.
